Hashtags are an Internet phenomenon that was popularized on Twitter, a micro blogging service. People add a #word or #PhraseWithoutSpaces to a tweet and precede it with a hashtag, also known as a number or pound sign. Doing so allows others to locate tweets with a particular hashtag, such as #KillYourself.

Once hashtags established themselves on Twitter, their use spread to Facebook and other social media networks. With everybody adding hashtags to their posts, images and videos, trends could be identified. When a large number of people use a common hashtag, often across multiple social media networks, this is known as trending. A recent example is #HasJustineLandedYet, we'll get back to that later in the article.

Hashtag baby

Hashtag Jamerson is the name of a baby girl who's parents spend too much time on the internet. Either that or they hate their child so much that an abortion wasn't good enough. Until their child is old enough to go for a new high score, expect that her parents will continue profiting from the publicity as they continue neglecting their child, leaving her alone in a crib while they play Farmville.
