Voltron: Legendary Defender

On June 10, 2016, Netflix made the mistake of uploading a mediocre remake of a forgettable '80s show. Little did they know, this show would attract a bunch of shitty Tumblr users and SJWs thusly creating one of the most cancerous fanbases (even worse than Steven Universe's fandom!!). Not only do the "Fans" of this show watch it purely for their gay ships, but they also continuously harass each other (along with voice actors and writers of the show!) To them, something made by Dreamworks is apparently supposed to be the most progressive LGBT+ show ever - despite it being made by fucking Dreamworks. What was probably meant to be an innocent adaption of a show with the plot and one-dimensional characters closely relating to Power Rangers soon became one of the most hated pieces of animation, even hated by their own fans.

The Plot

Nothing special at all. Just a bunch of boring characters who go into outer space and pilot a bunch of lion robots that transform into a giant robot, and they fight aliens. That's as deep as it gets. The writers try pushing that it's "deep" - but not even the fans care: because the fans are too busy shipping all the characters with each other and fighting over which ones are better.

The Characters

Shiro: Basically exists for torture porn. Apparently he's based on the character Sven who dies but everyone lusts over him so they can't kill him now. The writers "confirmed" that he is gay to appease their fans but also killed his ex-fiance. Despite the couple being broken up, fans are still mad and call it 'queerbaiting' because being gay doesn't matter unless you're kissing another guy on a children's cartoon. Despite not being permanently dead, he still constantly dies and needs saving because he can't do anything on his own without a near death experience. Gets a husband at the very last second of the show.

Keith: Surprisingly, Keith is the most interesting character; This is only because he has some semblance of backstory compared to everyone else (but it isn't taken advantage of enough!) He is shipped with LITERALLY EVERYONE and fans fight over who he should be dating, as if he's that desirable. He's half-human and half-alien with a dead father and a recently discovered mother who went missing but none of that matters because he isn't making out or having sex with either Lance or Shiro. Everyone thinks he's gay because he shows no interest in women, or anyone in general, but "No women" means "YES, Men!" in Tumblr's shitty sex-obsessed eyes.

Lance: An annoying dumbass that Tumblr worships despite him constantly flirting with women and being a general nuisance to everyone on his team. Everyone really ships him with Keith despite there being no chemistry whatsoever, just because of one joke they made in the show about them having a "bonding moment". Is one of the only explicitly brown characters besides Allura. Hooks up with Allura and turns into a half-alien. Then, at the end of the series he ditches his family on Earth and becomes an alien farmer, essentially dedicating the rest of his life to obsessing over his dead girlfriend like the cuck he is.

Hunk: He's fat, that's pretty much it.

Pidge: Originally a boy in the original Voltron, she is turned into a girl because they needed someone else to fill the useless female trope besides Allura. She's apparently "smart", because she programmed a space robot like once and wears glasses. Her brother and father were missing for two seasons until she found them. After that, she has no character arc whatsoever, still better than what Hunk gets as a character.

Allura: The character everyone wants to fuck. Originally a boring white girl, she is now a boring black girl with small markings under her eyes to indicate that she's an alien but still waifu material to the very few heterosexual fans. She has an annoying British accent and is also racist towards Keith. Despite not being interested in Lance in the early seasons, she now wants to fuck him in the newer seasons because you can't be a competent female character without a boyfriend. Hooks up with Lance and then dies.

The fandom

Look how progressive

This cancerous fandom has consistently caused a lot of drama not only across Tumblr but on Twitter as well. Often they were found to be hreatening both the writers and voice actors to make their ships canon, and to demand more GAYYYYY content, because ships matter more than actual plot.

Here's a list of all the shit they caused over this show:

  • A fan once blackmailed the studio and writers that produced Voltron by threatening to post spoilers if they didn't make their favorite ship canon
  • Hyping up season 7 only to HATE season 7
  • Caused writers and voice actors to fear their life around fans and cancel their panels at cons
  • Had a fight over whether or not Shiro is wearing eyeliner or it's how Dreamwork's indicates he's Asian
  • Had a fight over whether shipping Shiro and Keith together is considered incest or not because some people think they're siblings for some reason
  • Accused writers of being pedophiles because of Shiro and Keith as a pairing because apparently Shiro is too old and that's the writer's fault
  • At ECCC 2018, a fan recorded one of the voice actors answering questions without his knowledge or consent and posted it online, claiming that he'd given away spoilers revealing that Lance and Keith would become canon. He did not.
  • Sending death threats to writers and voice actors due to Lance and Keith not being canon
  • Throw a tantrum that Shirt getting a husband at the end of the series because it 'isn't good enough'
  • Calls killing Allura 'viciously racist' due to her being black despite her white self also dying in the original.
  • Claimimg that all the writers should lose their jobs because they didn't make a preferred ship canon.
