Database backups

We should regularly create independent public backups of the article database to prevent such losses from occurring again. (see: https://karl-voit.at/2020/10/23/avoid-web-forums/ ) CurtainMan (talk) 22:48, 17 December 2023 (EST)

No one prevents you from scraping the wiki TabbyGarf æ 10:54, 30 December 2023 (EST)
When I am not there, someone else needs to do it. 😉 Thanks nonetheless, Tabby. Nice signature, by the way! CurtainMan (talk) 12:57, 3 January 2024 (EST)
By the way, thanks for creating backups too, Tabby! Good work! If the past of Dramatica teaches us anything, it is "no backups, no mercy". CurtainMan (talk) 19:16, 5 January 2024 (EST)
I called it. 😆 Good thing this iteration of Dramatica publishes regular backups! We have learnt from our wobbly past, it seems. CurtainMan (talk) 14:51, 3 September 2024 (CDT)

Suggestion

I am glad this iteration of Dramatica has learnt from the past and publishes regular full backups. More websites should do this.

But I have a suggestion: Text and media should be in separate files because text is far smaller than media, so the text backups can be done more frequently.

Also, text-only backups should be compressed using 7z or xz -9. They are very effective on text. It should result in less than a twentieth of the file size.
