Forum where anime fans and scene rippers flock to, being under the illusion that the ability to rip a movie at 35% of it's original quality or the ability to play obscure formats in your PC somehow makes you a digital video expert.

How to get a video-related question answered in doom9 forum

1. Ask the question (example: How to encode a Divx Avi file in Divx Home Theater - compatible bitrates, using Xvid).

2. Get a bunch of answers that a) tell you what you need to do without telling you how to do it, or b) tell you that what you are asking for is impossible and can't be done.

3. Google your question, and over 9000 detailed, accurate and well written tutorials will pop up (example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKHX8FGKFgw ).

4. Post the tutorial in doom9, while saying that what you were asking for was in fact possible.

5. Watch how the "experts" try to get away by playing with the semantics. Aka, how the tutorial is not exactly what you asked for, so it was your fault for asking the wrong question.

All in all, pretty boring forum.

Other things you can do in Doom9

- Constantly get reminded that Divx avi (aka Divx 6) and Divx Plus HD are not formats, while in fact they are formats.

- Constantly get reminded how "AVI" and "MKV" are formats, while in fact they are not formats (they are container formats).

- Tell them how TMPGEnc rocks while all the open sores tools they use and recommend suck (and again, watch them playing with the scemantics).

- Watch them whine about how they can't beat the evil Cinavia watermark in their PS3 ( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1521475#post1521475 ), while at least two fixes exist ( http://www.dvdfab.com/blu-ray-copy.htm ) ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4CcFFbtz_s )

-Watch them pretend how they rip and copy stuff only for back up purposes, while in fact the entire site was founded by scene members and anime pirates.

- Watch them push MKV down your throat, even if MP4 is better

Other stuff

Doom9 also provides several step by step guides for one click tools like AutoGK that obviously don't need a guide. Guides for non-one click tools are not provided.
