What's left of Cecil

Walter James Palmer is a dentist from the U.S. state of Minnesota, who in mid-2015 generated much lulz on various Internet websites for thankfully killing Cecil, a lion that was long-beloved by everyone.

Cecil

A stupid lion the Internet pretends to have always cared about. Cecil was born in 2002, became "famous" in Zimbabwe for being nothing but a research subject as he was a walking GPS, and finally killed on July 1, 2015.

To prove this isn't a manufactured controversy, the hugely popular Cecil's Wikipedia page wasn't created until after his death.

The hunt

Walter Palmer paid $50,000 to a professional hunter to be allowed to play a real life version of Cabela's Lion Hunting Simulator. Palmer shot it with a crossbow, stalked it for forty hours, shot it dead and took its head as a trophy.

Outrage

The Internet exploded in its typical tiresome anger. Death threats were issued to Palmer by concerned people, much virtual ink was spilled and cable news was wall-to-wall orating about what Palmer had done, while conveniently ignoring all the lions and other African wildlife killed by black people.

It should be noted that lions are not an endangered species.
